Overview
Buy this “Fahrenheit 451” class set for your classroom, school, or district and find out why Ray Bradbury’s novel continues to be recognized as a literary masterpiece of 20th century.
Set in a bleak, dystopian future, the novel follows the story of a fireman named Guy Montag. His job is to destroy the most illegal items, including books, along with the houses in which they are hidden. For his entire life, Montag has never questioned the destruction and ruin his actions produce. Every day like clockwork, he returns home to his wife, Mildred, who spends her entire day with a television “family.”
Everything changes when he meets Clarisse, a young and eccentric neighbor who introduces him to a past where people did not fear and a present where one can see the world through the ideas in books instead of mindless television chatter. When Mildred tries to commit suicide and Clarisse mysteriously disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known in life. He begins to hide books in his home... and when his pilfering is discovered, this fireman has to run for his life.
